My wife, dog, and I currently live in downtown Silver Spring area and determined that we needed something a bit bigger. Our preference was to stay in Silver Spring, we loved the accessibility to public transit, the Beltway, DC, and the cultural and restaurant scene but found that we were priced out of the area unless we were willing to compromise on the living space size, age of the home, and/or work needed. We did not initially think to search outside of Silver Spring area but determined that we needed to be open minded and that's how we found the Greenbelt Station development.
Our first experience with Greenbelt Station was by chance, a family friend mentioned that the model homes were beautiful and totally unexpected for the area and encouraged us to visit. Since my wife grew up in the area and her family still lives in the area, she thought it would be interesting to see and found that we were blown away by how nice the models were. The first model we saw was the Andrew Carnegie and we fell in love..2 car garage, rec room, huge open floor main living area with gourmet kitchen, modern fireplace, huge master bedroom (which was bigger than our current place) and the rooftop terrace. Amazing! We were very tempted to sign papers right then and there! Although we loved the Andrew Carnegie, the price was a stumbling block. Compared to Montgomery County housing prices, it was comparably cheaper for the space and finishes but we decided to continue our search.
We also saw the Strauss Attic model in the same development but after seeing the Carnegie we felt the flow of the space was disjointed. It was very nice but it suffered in comparison. We couldn't figure out how to efficiently use the spaces to match our needs.
During our search, we looked at different developments including Poplar Run (Silver Spring), The Crown (Gaithersburg), Norbeck Crossing(Silver Spring), Bentley Park(Laurel), Brickyard Station(Beltsville), Beech Tree (Upper Marlboro), and Brighton Place(Capitol Heights) and determined that Greenbelt Station was the most ideally situated. Within those developments we looked at different types of housing, both townhouses and single family, but never encountered a townhouse condo. My wife was totally opposed to living in another condo but I convinced her to see the model in Greenbelt and she bought in as the Picasso is similar to Carnegie's main living and sleeping areas layout but much cheaper. So here we are, starting a new adventure.
